Tamil Nadu BJP leader K Annamalai on Tuesday alleged that there were major security lapses during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Chennai in early July this year. Prime Minister Modi visited the city to participate in the opening ceremony of the 44th Chess Olympiad at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai.
Chief Minister MK Stalin, Governor RN Ravi and dignitaries from over 180 countries attended the mega event.
Annamalai and other senior BJP leaders handed over a memorandum in this regard to Governor RN Ravi. In a statement, the BJP said it came to light that most of the hand-held metal detectors, door frame metal detectors and bomb detectors used in the security setup were out of order and required late maintenance.
The saffron party also claimed that it has produced evidence of the involvement of the ADGP (Intelligence Agency) in the fake passport scam, but the state government has not initiated action against him and continues to run a highly sensitive department that continues to fail in its core duties. the duty to protect the country and its citizens.
The party further added that law and order in the state is deteriorating day by day and alleged that the state government did not heed specific intelligence provided by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), which led to the Coimbatore blast.
“The DMK government in power continues to use the National Intelligence Service to settle its political scores, not for professional reasons,” the BJP alleged.
The statement said it is the responsibility of the state police and the government to provide adequate and functional security devices. He added that after PM Modi’s visit, the Tamil Nadu Police sent a circular to all police stations asking for a report on the status of all security devices.
In its memorandum, the BJP asked the Governor to order the state government to conduct an impartial inquiry into the matter and initiate appropriate action against those found guilty.
They further demanded that an independent audit be conducted of the current inventory of security devices installed in temples, monuments, government offices and other areas where there are large gatherings.
“By compromising the security devices, the state government not only messed up in ensuring that the vital area is disinfected before the VVIP visit but also failed to provide the security personnel on the ground with a functional security device thereby endangering our honorable Prime Minister,” the statement read.
