Transport Minister SS Sivasankar on Saturday inaugurated the automatic announcement of bus stops for passengers on Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) buses at the Pallavan depot in Chennai.
The announcement was made through the Global Positioning System (GPS) already installed in some of the more than 3,000 MTC buses.
After inaugurating the automated bus stand advertising, the Transport Minister along with Hindu Religious and Charitable Institutions Department Minister PK Sekar Babu and Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni MP Udaynidhi Stalin took one of the buses to inspect the functioning of the facility.
The MTC said in a press release that it has proposed to install a stop signaling device in a total of 1,000 buses, of which 150 buses have been equipped in the first phase.
The facility is similar to what we hear on suburban trains and will be available in all three segments of ordinary, express and deluxe services.
