Customs picks up a flyer from Dubai with gold worth Rs 48 lakh in Kochi | News Bharat


The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of the customs department seized 1,192 grams of gold, worth Rs 48.5 lakh, at the Kochi airport on Sunday.

Based on the profile done by the Kochi AIU batch, customs officials intercepted a passenger from Dubai at the Kochi airport on flight IX-434.

The accused was identified as Ali, a native of Kozhikode district.

Upon examining the passenger, customs officers found four capsules of gold in compound form, weighing 1,010 grams, hidden inside his body.

Three raw gold chains, weighing 182 grams, were also found hidden in his socks and confiscated.

Further investigations are ongoing.

Earlier on Saturday, the customs department seized 2,219.94 grams of gold, worth Rs 94 lakh, in two separate incidents at the Kochi airport after intercepting two passengers.

In one such case, customs seized 1,155.88 grams of gold worth Rs 47 lakh.

Officers of Kochi AIU batch intercepted a passenger from Dubai, identified as Shihab from Alappuzha district of Kerala.
