The Northeast Monsoon generally remained dormant during the 2ndn.d mid November for Chennai. Otherwise, November is the rainiest month for the capital city of Tamil Nadu. Courtesy, active monsoon conditions between 1St halfway through the month, both the observatories, Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam, exceeded their monthly normal rainfall. The lack of easterly waves and the absence of any low pressure or depression over the last 2 weeks has resulted in poor weather conditions without much precipitation. Honey, 16th and the 29thth in November, Nungambakkam recorded only 11.4 mm of rainfall and Meenambakkam airport observatory only 2.7 mm.

Today and tomorrow it will be mostly cloudy with high humidity and steamy. A change in these conditions is likely very soon. The strengthening of the easterly flow along the coast will trigger the northeasterly monsoon activity, which will begin on 01.St in December, when we expect light rain and showers. The intensity and spread of monsoon showers are likely to increase and become moderate between 2n.d and Dec. 4 The city and suburbs may see a drop in the next 48 hours, and 06th December and then the peak again.

Over the South Andaman Sea and the adjacent Bay of Bengal (BoB), the 3rd/4th cyclonic circulation probably occurredth in December. This weather system will be an offshoot of a low pressure area over the Gulf of Thailand that will make its way across the Indian Ocean as a weak circulation. This circulation is expected to become more pronounced and may turn into a low pressure area over the south central Bay of Bengal. An easterly flow over the BoB is likely to direct this weather system over the southwest BoB off the Tamil Nadu coast on December 6. The proximity of the low pressure first and the penetration of the coast later will trigger heavy rains along and along the coast, including the major cities of Chennai and Puducherry, between 06th and 08 December.
