A MURDER investigation is underway after a Warrington man was found dead in a luxury apartment in Dubai.

The body of Jerrerd Steven Oliver Winstanley was found in an apartment in the Damac Hills area of the United Arab Emirates city on Thursday, September 29.

A Dubai medical examiner concluded that Mr Winstanley, of Latchford, died of “multiple injuries” and his body was repatriated to the UK.

A Home Office pathologist confirmed the conclusion of the Dubai medical examiner following a post mortem at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital.

Winstanley was formally identified by his passport while still in Dubai.

An inquest into the death was opened at Warrington Coroner’s Court this week, which is standard procedure for a British citizen who dies abroad, police confirmed.

Cheshire Coroner Claire Welch officially opened the inquest and then adjourned proceedings pending the outcome of the Dubai Police murder investigation.

A full inquest was due to be held in August next year.

The Star’s sister title, the Warrington Guardian, has contacted Dubai Police for comment on the status of the investigation.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “We are aware of Mr Winstanley’s death and our family liaison officers are supporting his family in the UK.

“In relation to any criminal investigation into his death, this will be conducted by the authorities in Dubai.”
