A 36-year-old Asian woman who worked at a private company in Dubai has been convicted and sentenced to a month in jail after stealing a phone.
The owner of the phone said she went to a pharmacy to buy medicine and left without realizing she had left the phone. When he realized this, he went back to the pharmacy and looked, but could not find it. He asked the salesman, who told him he couldn’t find it either.
She said she was sure the phone had been left at the pharmacy, so she asked staff to check the cameras.
Security camera footage showed a woman entering the location, quickly grabbing her phone and leaving. The victim informed the police, who were able to identify and arrest the accused.
The accused appeared before the court, repeating the confession she made in the police report and in the investigations of the Prosecutor’s Office. He said he went to the pharmacy to buy medicine and saw the phone. He realized that someone had forgotten it, so he stole it, got rid of the SIM card and used it.
The criminal court convicted her and sentenced her to one month in prison followed by deportation.
