Katupalli Port, has purchased these Electric Inland Terminal Vehicles (ITVs) for deployment for container operations. These ITVs are battery operated and have far fewer parts than a diesel trailer. The battery of these ITVs can be charged using fast chargers over the network, as well as through renewable energy sources – solar, wind, etc. operations were served by diesel ITVs.

The aim of introducing the electric ITV is to increase efficiency, with the plan to introduce autonomous vehicles and related technologies into daily port operations to further increase the overall efficiency of the terminal, in line with Adani Ports’ ambition to go Carbon neutral operations.

Adani Ports & SEZ, aware of its environmental responsibilities, has undertaken several process improvement and technology integration initiatives to reduce environmental impact. This has been achieved by improving process efficiency, investing in port infrastructure electrification and setting up renewable energy installations where possible. The transition to clean energy is the key to minimizing environmental impact and paving the way to a carbon neutral future.

In terms of greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions, there is projected to be an estimated annual reduction of about 8.6 MT in CO2 emissions and 487.7 GJ in energy consumption for ITV.

Recently, India was promoted to 8th place from last year’s 10th place in the latest Climate Change Performance Index report. This ranking was given to India based on its low emissions and increasing use of renewable energy.
