CHENNAI: An MTC bus driver lost control of the vehicle and rammed into three cars and a car near the main railway station on Monday morning. A bus passenger was injured in the accident.
The MTC bus was identified as 2A and was plying between Anna Market and Kannadasan Nagar. Around 7 am, the bus crossed the Pallavan Salai and mounted the Park Town flyover with 20 passengers.
“A few minutes later, when the bus was coming down from the overpass, the signal turned red and the driver applied the brakes hard, but lost control of the vehicle. The bus collided with an SUV in front and stopped,” the police said. The collision caused a drift in which several vehicles collided. A woman traveling in the bus sustained injuries in the collision and was taken to Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital. After treatment, she was sent home. The rear windshields of three cars were damaged. Traffic stopped on the section for about half an hour.
The Anna Square Traffic Investigation Police has registered a case. According to the police, the driver of the MTC bus said that the vehicle’s brakes were not working properly, which caused the accident. Following the incident, the passengers were shifted to another bus while the bus was taken to the Pallavan Salai depot. Police said the auto drivers created a ruckus and demanded that the MTC pay for the damage, but were evicted after compromise talks.
