The Teynampet police arrested a jail employee for allegedly impersonating a CID Core Cell police officer guarding Chief Minister MK Stalin and for storming near the CM’s security circle.

Police said the accused, V. Vasanthakumar, 42, of Coimbatore, is an Assistant Sub-Inspector in the Prisons and Correctional Services Department and is currently working in the Pollachi Sub Jail. Along with two other friends, he was traveling by flight from Coimbatore to Chennai on Wednesday morning. They went to the house of the Minister of Health and Family, Ma. Subramanian and took a photo with him.

When they learned that Chief Minister MK Stalin was going to visit Kalaignar Arangam, the DMK headquarters, all three went there. Vasanthakumar, dressed in a safari suit like the CID Core Cell men, approached the security ring. He was quickly intercepted and interrogated by the CM’s security personnel. He and his friends were then handed over to the Teynampet police for further investigation.

During interrogation, the police found that Vasanthakumar had deliberately dressed up as a Core Cell staff and had a fake identity card claiming to be a police official. The police have registered a case under sections 170 (Impersonation of a public servant) and 171 (Carrying of clothing or token used by a public servant with intent to defraud) of the Indian Penal Code. However, he was released on bail when he was brought to court.
