Guindy police have detained a 21-year-old woman in connection with the investigation into the murder of the woman’s husband, a 25-year-old ragpicker, on Monday. The victim, identified as Kumar Karthik, lived along with his wife Sandhya on the footpath on the Velachery main road near the bus stand at the check post.
A senior Chennai city police official said the couple, Kumar Karthik and Sandhya, were ragpickers and lived on the footpath next to the main road. The Guindy police were informed early on Monday morning that Kumar Karthik was found dead with his throat slit, while his wife was found in an “unconscious” condition. The body of the victim was sent to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital for post-mortem.
The Guindy police are awaiting the post-mortem report to ascertain the cause of the murder, while they have taken Sandhya into custody and are also looking for possible closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, if any.
